As we approach International Women’s Day 2025, the theme "March Forward" serves as a powerful reminder of the strides women are making across all sectors, including finance. In this article, we highlight Kylie Wright, Ulton Wealth Management Partner with 30 years of experience, who has not only made significant achievements in her career but is also passionate about empowering women to take control of their financial futures.
Kylie’s journey to becoming a trusted financial advisor was anything but ordinary. Growing up on dairy farms and a remote cattle property, she faced financial uncertainty early on. It wasn’t until her family moved to town after her parents’ divorce that Kylie began to understand the importance of financial independence. "Watching my mother navigate life as a single parent in the 1980s really opened my eyes to the critical role financial security plays in creating opportunities," says Kylie.
Her interest in finance took root when she took a receptionist role at a financial planning firm in Bundaberg. This unexpected start in the industry revealed to Kylie how financial planning could transform lives. "I quickly realised how powerful financial advice could be in giving people confidence and clarity about their future," she reflects.
Kylie’s approach to financial advice goes beyond numbers. She believes success isn’t just about building wealth—it’s about helping clients achieve their personal goals. "Everyone’s situation is unique, and I take the time to understand what’s most important to them. Whether it’s securing their family’s future or achieving work-life balance, I aim to provide advice that truly aligns with their values," Kylie explains.
Her expertise spans diverse areas, from self-managed super funds (SMSFs) to estate planning. She’s earned the trust of high net worth clients, farmers, and professionals alike, all of whom appreciate her precision and empathy in handling complex financial matters.
Kylie is a strong advocate for women in the financial planning sector, where she leads an all-female team at Ulton. “Financial planning is an incredible career for women, offering flexibility and growth opportunities,” Kylie says. She’s determined to break down barriers and encourage more women to join the profession, whether as advisors, paraplanners, or client service officers.
Her commitment to diversity extends beyond gender. Inspired by her daughter, a diversity, equity, and inclusion expert, Kylie is focused on attracting more culturally diverse and neurodivergent individuals into financial planning. “We need workplaces that truly reflect the diverse communities we serve, and that starts with ensuring we create inclusive environments,” she emphasises.
One issue Kylie is passionate about is the gender superannuation gap. "Women typically retire with significantly less superannuation than men, largely due to career breaks for caregiving. Closing this gap is vital," Kylie points out. She strongly advocates for greater financial literacy among women, encouraging them to take proactive steps in securing their financial futures. She also supports initiatives like super guarantee contributions on paid parental leave and highlights the importance of making catch-up contributions over time.
Throughout her career, Kylie has been inspired by women who have made an impact. Now, she mentors the next generation, offering this advice to young women entering the finance industry: “Don't be afraid to ask for help, and embrace every opportunity to learn and grow. The more knowledge you gain, the more confident you'll feel in making smart financial decisions."
As we celebrate International Women’s Day under the theme “Marching Forward,” let’s honour women like Kylie, whose work is empowering others to take charge of their financial futures. Kylie’s journey exemplifies the power of resilience and education—and the lasting impact one person can have on inspiring change.
Through her work, Kylie not only helps clients build wealth but also motivates others to pursue financial independence and success. Her story reminds us all that with the right knowledge and support, we can all march forward toward a brighter financial future.
