Shalom College Year 12 student, Jade Galt, recently completed an eye-opening vacation program at Ulton, one of Queensland's leading business advisory, chartered accounting, and wealth management practices – and by all accounts, she had a fantastic experience!

Jade_Galt_Profile image BACKGROUND COLOUR Warm Grey_ROUND_180 px x 180 px__RGBJade, a friendly and engaged student with a genuine interest in accounting, immersed herself in the dynamic world of Ulton, gaining hands-on experience across a range of different teams. During her time, she had the opportunity to learn from and work alongside professionals in Audit, Business Services, Bookkeeping, Superannuation, Tax Advisory, Business Advisory and Insights, and even gained exposure to the world of stockbroking at Morgans, as well as Finance and Payroll.

Ulton's vacation program is designed to be more than just work experience. Ulton People and Culture Manager, Hannah Murchie explained, "We want to provide an experience for students that gives them new perspectives, skills and connections. Give them hands-on opportunities to experience what the exciting world of accounting can be."

Reflecting on her placement, Jade shared, "Being able to experience the processes and workings of an accounting firm outside of a classroom perspective has been a valuable insight for my future career. The sessions were informative, and the staff have been both patient and kind. I'm grateful for the time everyone has given for the program and have enjoyed the past week and a half."

The Ulton team were equally impressed with Jade.

Audit Accountant, Ronan Boylan noted her "responsive and engaging" attitude, highlighting her ability to "display understanding of the concepts presented and was able to apply these concepts on her own after a few examples."

Superannuation Accountant, praised Jade's willingness to learn and her positive approach, stating, "Jade was a pleasure to work with and we were impressed with her efforts. Jade was open to learn and was not overwhelmed with the experience. We wish Jade success for her ‘super’ future ahead."

Jade herself found the experience incredibly valuable, gaining insights into the "behind-the-scenes processes of managing and giving advice to a business" and appreciating the "teamwork that goes into completing the work." The program even broadened her horizons, giving her "an insight into the reality of the accounting and business industry" and making her "more informed and aware of different sectors of Ulton I never would've thought I'd be interested in before the program."

We're excited to announce that Jade will be starting as a trainee accountant in the audit team at Ulton in early January 2026. This marks the beginning of her professional journey in the accounting field, and we wish her continued success as she takes this next step.

Also worth celebrating, Year 11 student Xander White, who recently completed the Ulton vacation program during the September school holidays. We wish him all the best as he begins his own journey into the world of business and accounting.
