At Ulton, we often see clients who are ageing and beginning to have physical frailty or mental incapacity. It's essential that these clients understand the seriousness of retaining a valid photo ID for their entire lives.
If they need to give up their Drivers Licence, then they need to always keep a valid passport, or failing that, a Photo Identification Card. Without valid photo ID, you almost become a non-person.
For example, without valid photo ID, you cannot open bank accounts, apply for Age Pension, or Aged Care (including Home Care), deal with Government bodies, rollover or commence a Term Deposit, deal with superannuation, investments or even deal with professional people.
Lack of ID for older Australians is an issue, even if they have an Enduring Power of Attorney acting for them. In this case, it is usual to have to supply ID for both the client and the Attorney.
Photo Identification Cards can be obtained at Department of Transport, most Australia Post Offices and in some Police Stations. When doing this you must also show proof of identity.
